Subaru Canada and the Toronto Subaru Club Raise $40k for Charity!

Canadians really love their Subaru’s, and that was clearly on display at the 12th Annual HyperMeeting at Subaru Canada Headquarters, put on by the Toronto Subaru Club (TSC). The TSC is by far the largest performance vehicle enthusiast club of its kind, featuring over 11,000 members from Toronto and the surrounding areas. The 12th Annual HyperMeeting drew a crowd of over 800 vehicles and well over 1,000 people, who were all there to celebrate their shared passion for Subaru ownership.

While the Subaru WRX and STI models were easily the most popular at the event, there was a wide array of other models that Subaru enthusiasts were just as eager to show off (the BRZ was also a big hit). While the event is one for showing off performance cars and the work that has gone into them, it is also a community-based event to help raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which is Subaru Canada’s and TSC’s charity of choice year after year. This year, a total of $20,000 was raised for the Ronald McDonald House Charities by the Toronto Subaru Club, which Subaru Canada then matched dollar-for-dollar, bringing the total to $40,000.

This annual family friendly event also offered a BBQ, photo booth and various other fun attractions, that made it a hit amongst both old and young alike. A real hit was the Subaru vehicle that was covered in chalk paint, which would eventually become fully decorated!

The community-oriented Toronto Subaru Club hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year, and is a great way for Subaru owners, fans, and enthusiasts to mingle and socialize. With this they are also helping children who are undergoing life-saving medical treatment while staying at the Ronald McDonald House. For more on the TSC, check out their website at http://www.toronto-subaru-club.com/.

It’s always great to see communities rallying together for a good cause, and this is no exception. A big congratulations to both Subaru Canada Inc. and the Toronto Subaru Club! Way to go!

Subaru Legacy/Outback Recall (USA)

Posted by Subaru of Niagara

Sep 4, 2015 12:51:11 PM

2015-subaru-outback_100464619_m

Customer safety is our number one concern and priority at Subaru, and that’s why we strive to bring you the latest news when it comes to our vehicles, and the possibility that some of them may need to be recalled from time to time.

Subaru is recalling almost 2,900 Subaru Legacy and Outback crossover vehicles from the 2015 and 2016 model  years. In recent testing, there has been some concern about reports that some of these vehicles may be at risk for overheating or catching fire.

While this recall has not yet affected Canadian vehicles, Subaru sent a notice to it’s American dealers stating:  "During the manufacturing process of the propeller shaft that connects to the vehicle’s transmission, the seal cap and seal located inside the propeller shaft yoke may have been deformed. As a result, the seal may leak transmission fluid." If a fluid such as this were to leak onto a hot surface, such as an exhaust pipe, it could potentially ignite a fire.

The recall affects the Legacy and the Outback crossovers that were manufactured between July 3, 2015 and July 27, 2015, which is about 2,900 vehicles.

As we noted, this recall has not extended to Canada yet, but we like to make you aware of these things. Subaru has started to mail recall notices to the owners of these vehicles, and owners will be able to take their vehicles to a Subaru dealer, who will replace the propeller shaft at no charge.

Keep an eye on our blog here for updates and news regarding this recall, and if it will eventually affect Canada (which we hope it won’t)!

More Details on the 2016 Subaru Legacy

Posted by Subaru of Niagara

Aug 14, 2015 5:30:00 PM

2016-Subaru-Legacy-e1433190194386

The 2016 Subaru Legacy’s release is upon us, and there is a LOT to like about this car. Subaru has put a lot of work into refining and retuning the Legacy, and it will surely be a very talked about car when it comes to new vehicles for 2016.

The Legacy comes with one of two Subaru Boxer engine options, a 2.5 litre 4-cylinder and 3.6 litre 6-cylinder, both of which go hand-in-hand to Subaru’s symmetrical full-time All-Wheel Drive system. The Legacy also comes standard with wiper-linked automatic on/off headlights, which  activate the headlights if the wipers themselves are on for longer than 10 seconds. This is just another safety feature that Subaru prides itself on.

The back-up camera has been modified slightly, to give the user more options as to what guidelines they want to see on the screen, while the keyless entry lock/unlock system has added a chirping noise to let you know your car is indeed locked or unlocked. This last feature is a prime example of Subaru listening to it’s customer’s needs and then attending to them.

The 2016 Legacy Touring Packages (both 2.5i and 3.6R) also add an auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink, and a larger clock and outside temperature display. The Legacy 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited packages also received some updates to the 7” infotainment system—which is now Siri compatible for Apple iPhone users! A set of SiriusXM additions are now included with the vehicles, along with a free 3-month basic trial subscription to their service!

Subaru of Niagara will keep you up to date, and we’ll be sure to let you know when the new Legacy is in house!

Love Off-Roading? You Need a Subaru Crosstrek

Posted by Devin Kaulback

Jul 31, 2015 5:31:22 PM

Subaru-XV-Crosstrek-off-road

When you're looking for a more adventurous ride, you need a vehicle that is larger than the average sedan, but you may not be interested ina large crossover SUV, something that is great for daily driving as well as off-road fun. The Subaru Crosstrek is often touted for its smooth and efficient ride in the city and on highways, but it's also got the features that make it the perfect choice for off-road handling.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive

Every Subaru has symmetrical all-wheel drive — it's one of our most-loved features — so, of course you can find it in the Crosstrek. The all-wheel drive allows excellent handling on a variety of terrains and weather conditions. Even if you hit slippery surfaces, you'll still be able to grip the "road,"

Boxer Engine

The boxer engine does more than just ensure excellent fuel economy, it balances the Crosstrek's weight. That means a smoother ride despite the conditions, with a lower centre of gravity.

Dynamics Control

If you're into off-roading, driving is about more than just hitting the gas and driving in a safe, straight line. When you get off the beaten path, you're taking lots of turns, slowing down, stopping and speeding up. The Crosstrek's dynamics control keep you on the right path by automatically sensing the steering at every turn.

Ground Clearance

Despite being a smaller crossover, the Crosstrek still has 8.7 inches of ground clearance, allosing you to handle rocky trrain and deeper water — within reason. Of course, this isn't a four-wheeler, but you can still master your off-road adventure.
